Our Ensembles

Symphony Orchestra

The most advanced ensemble of the MRYO welcomes musicians ages 14-25. Symphony Orchestra offers young musicians the opportunity to acquire advanced orchestral playing skills by working on challenging and demanding repertoire. It is a unique opportunity to get a taste of great symphonic repertoire in a fun, energetic, and passionate learning environment.

Saturday, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm

Activities


  • 3 hour rehearsals, 35 per year.
  • Minimum 8 sectionals per year with professional string, wind and brass repeaters.
  • 1 intensive weekend in the Laurentides.
  • 4 concerts a year.
  • Participation in the Quebec Youth Orchestra Association Festival (every 2 years)
  • Chamber music program (additional fee)

Registration fee: $480 per year

Dolce Musica

The intermediate level string orchestra for ages 11 to 15. The goal of the ensemble is to give young musicians of an intermediate level the opportunity to develop basic orchestral skills in order to prepare them for eventual entry into the Symphony Orchestra. The repertoire is carefully chosen to build confidence on both a technical and musical level, while developing all aspects of string playing.

  • 2.25 hour rehearsals, 30 per year.
  • 8 sectionals per year with professional string repeaters.
  • 1 intensive weekend in the Laurentides.
  • Participation in the Festival of Relevance.
  • 3 concerts a year.
  • Chamber music program (additional fee)

Registration fee: $440 per year

String Ensemble

The junior string ensemble for ages 5 to 12. The goal of the ensemble is to give young musicians the opportunity to discover the fun of learning to play together. The repertoire is carefully chosen and arranged so that all levels may participate; no matter what the student’s abilities, he or she will be included, challenged, and encouraged.

  • 1.5 hour rehearsals, 30 per year.
  • 1 concert at the MSO
  • 3 concerts a year.

DaCapo

The beginner string ensemble for ages 5 to 9. The goal of the ensemble is to give the youngest musicians the opportunity to discover the fun of learning to play together. The repertoire is carefully chosen and arranged so that all levels may participate; no matter what the student’s abilities, he or she will be included, challenged, and encouraged.
